Script Frenzy: Day Thirty

Whoo! I finished script frenzy!

And the page count from my PDF was actually 140 pages O.o but that's from all the descriptions I've written into the panels.

Even though I have done the challenge, its not the end of the book. I am hoping to get under 200 pages for the first draft, finish by end of May at most and then we can edit it. Right now however I am a bit tired from that last rush of writing so I'm going to take a break for today before I get around to continuing the script.

Congratulations to everyone who completed the challenge!

Script Frenzy: Day Twenty Nine

Good evening folks.
My writing session was rather short tonight but I cranked out three more pages making the total up to 96 so now I have only 4 more pages to make the 100 page mark!

One more day folks! Work your asses to the finish line! In the meantime I will be getting sleep.
Goodnight everyone.

Script Frenzy: Late Night Shenanigans!

Its nearly 2:30 here on the West coast and after some pop and some horror music, I've managed to get the ball rolling again and write up to page 93!

So now I have seven more pages to write in 46 more hours! So I will be able to finish my goal on time. After the script frenzy I will continue writing until I get the first draft done. As soon as I do it, everything else will come a little easier (although I dread the editing phase)

And when I get the first draft done I can also get going on some more concept art! Whoo hoo!
...shit I won't be able to sleep tonight with all the caffiene.

Script Frenzy: Day Twenty Eight

I am up to page 87 now but I have three (oh damn! TWO!) days to try and get to my 100 page goal. So since its the weekend, I will have another marathon tonight to get about 7 pages done (10 would be great but you never know)

So take another swig of pop, put on some horror movies and time to go Go GO!
Let's get er done!

Script Frenzy: Day Twenty Seven

Evening...er morning everyone.

I worked from pages 82 to 86 and now I feel myself nodding off and needing some sleep. Its so weird that the Script Frenzy competition is three days away from the deadline. I will work as hard as I can to make the 100 page goal even if it may be ineligible.

Still seeing that my script is getting quite long and there may be some scenes that may not be needed but I don't need to worry too much about that until I get to editing stage. My goal right now is to finish on Monday night.

So for all the Frenziers out there finishing their scripts, I will see you at the finish line.
...Now my hands are tired from typing and need some sleep.

Script Frenzy: Day Twenty Six

I have been rather busy for today so I haven't been able to write and not to mention I have been job searching and doing portfolio work. Hopefully tomorrow will be better or else I will lose the challenge. Maybe some rest will charge my batteries.

See you tomorrow.

Script Frenzy: Day Twenty Five

Wrote from page 79 to 81 tonight. I seem to be feeling the grinding of my gears as I am coming to an end but the end is almost there and I will be happy to at least finish the challenge.

I wrote a creepy little part for my main character as he is haunted by the spirit (or maybe a manifestation of guilt?) of his friend and recent victim of the monster.

Anyway it is late and time for me to sleep.

Script Frenzy: Day Twenty Four

Worked from pages 76 to 79 and I have been working rather late tonight so I will be heading to bed. I will need to work extra hard for the last week in order to get to page 100. So wish me luck, I seem to be doing good so far!
Just seven more days.

Monday, April 23, 2012

Script Frenzy: Day Twenty Three

Wrote pages 73 to 76. I've been a little busy due to company but give just enough to keep up with the daily goal. Will get writing again tomorrow when I get some rest and time to think things over.

How is everyone else doing? We've got another week to go! Keep up the good work! :D

Script Frenzy: Day Twenty Two

Evening folks
I had a much better time writing tonight than in the last while. I worked from page 66 to page 73! So now the main character is dealing with the fact that another friend is dead and HE is one of the prime suspects.

I had a nice stint of writing at about 8 pm while watching a couple of horror movies, now I think I am running out of steam and going to head to bed for the night. Only 8 more days to the Script Frenzy marathon and I hope to get as much done as possible.

So have a goodnight folks and see you tomorrow night.

Script Frenzy: Day Twenty One

Returned from Fan Expo/Career Fair today.

My entire body hurts from walking around for hours with heavy equipment. I can barely seem to concentrate on working this evening through the pain. So its safe to say that I won't be able to get anything written tonight. Hopefully this doesn't hurt my chances in Script Frenzy.

I think I might head to bed early tonight. Goodnight folks.

Script Frenzy: Day Twenty

I haven't been able to get any writing done today.

Like my last post said I am attending a Career fair and a comic convention tomorrow. So I have been going through my animation and making new demo reels, which you can check out here: www.animationdungeon.com

I will be working late tonight, getting resumes printed and burning DVD showreels. I ain't getting any sleep and I might end up a wreck in the morning. So goodnight folks and I will see you Sunday.

Script Frenzy: Day Nineteen

Good evening everyone.
I had taken the day to go through job searches and relax and I also went out for dinner with friends which was really nice since I don't go out often nowadays.

As for the script, I am a little sleepy but I will see if I can pump out a few more pages tonight, currently on page 66, try to make it a goal to 68 and try to keep ahead of the daily goal.

This weekend is going to be very very busy due to getting ready for an Animation/VFX job fair happening on Saturday at the Vancouver Convention Center. Also on the same day and the same place is Vancouver Fan Expo, first big comic/anime/game convention in the city.

I will be taking that day to job search AND to talk with various comic creators, get their opinions on the comic scene and talk about average payments for comic projects. I plan on hiring an inker, a letterist and possibly a colourist (I am still not sure if I want to go colour route just yet) so when I get an average price from artists I can start getting a budget set up for an Indiegogo campaign going sometime this fall.

As for the book itself, I am trying to write the book that is no longer than 200 pages of art, infact less than that amount would be great. I want to be able to make the best book I can without having too much filler crap and makes the process a lot more efficient to draw the pages that are needed. Plus it makes cost a bit lower.

Anyway it is getting to midnight and I need to get work done, then get some sleep for I got a busy day tomorrow to prepare work for saturday.

EDIT: Uuugh, I guess the wine isn't done with me yet so I'm going to pack it in early at page 66. Goodnight

Script Frenzy: Day Eighteen

After having a late night marathon I was able to write enough pages for me to take a rest tonight. Plus I had ran out of the pages I had planned to write so I took the night to plan out my next writing session tomorrow.

So now I think I will head to bed early and get back the remaining sleep I've missed.

Script Frenzy: Late Night Marathon!

12: 30 am
Starting to watch Lucio Fulci's "Don't Torture a Duckling". Although his is known for his more gory works, Duckling is one of his earlier Giallo films. I decided to start with this film because he has the same setup that I have for my novel (murders in a small town, school boys getting killed) so hopefully I can learn a few things from Fulci.

1:15 am
I am on page 59 and now getting to the second big plot event in the novel! Time to write a little action scene to go with it, much much fun!

1:45 am
FINISHED PART 1! Whoo! Now take the time to look into pages I had skipped or haven't finished.

2:06 am
Still watching "Don't Torture a Duckling" and this blues/rock song during a character's death scene is really weird. I wonder why Fulci picked this particular tune. Most inappropriate music for a lynching I've ever heard. Meanwhile I made a second version of my Celtx file. I should have done this earlier but I never thought of it. Good to have a backup in case shit happens.

3:03 am
Finished the film (after watching it on and off) I've worked until page 65 and went over previous pages. Now my brain is a little tired and in need of sleep. It was a nice bit of work to catch up on my script but now I believe I am satisfied for the night.

Script Frenzy: Day Seventeen.

Well looks like I've managed to get myself out of the funk I was in and write a few more pages, making my count now to 56. If this was a movie, I am nearly an hour in. This might still need trimming when I am finished, in the meantime I am enjoying the writing process.

I seem to be rather hyped on caffeine this evening so I don't think I will be able to sleep for awhile. So tonight I will be doing a writing marathon! See how many pages I can get done in a few hours while watching some films. I will be making notes on my progress through the night until I head to bed.

Have a good night everyone!

Script Frenzy: Day Sixteen

I've been busy with some artwork and chores today, plus I think I might have hit a wall with my writing so I will take the night to rework some parts of that scene. I am running out of steam and feeling frustrated, so I think I will just relax tonight.

Hopefully I can get some more work done for tomorrow.

Script Frenzy: Day Fifteen

Well, I am a little halfway through the challenge.

Worked from page 50 - 53 although I may need to sit down and starting planning out the next pages. One scene might be deviating from what I had originally created but that's where the fun of writing comes in, sometimes new ideas may come up that can add to the story.

Right now however I think I am loosing steam. The quality seems to be suffering and I should stop these late nighters- they don't do well for my count.

Anyway off to sleep, see you tomorrow!

Sunday, April 15, 2012

Script Frenzy: Day Fourteen

Worked my way through page 44 to 50 today, which is quite an achievement! Hope to do more through this weekend. Just need to finish up one page and then I can head to sleep.

Script Frenzy: Day Thirteen

Hello everyone,
Hope you had a good Friday the 13th. I took the day to relax, watch some flicks and do a little writing. I am currently up to page 45- keeping in good track with the daily goal. Hope to do some more over the weekend.

I had watched "Cabin in the Woods" tonight at the theatre and I had a great time! It was rare that I had geek moments and fangasms in certain parts! (To reveal it would be too much of a spoiler- just trust me and go see the film!) It was the most fun I had watching horror movie in theatre in awhile.

Now that my batteries have been recharged, I will get back to work tomorrow with full gusto!
...but first some sleep. Glorious, glorious sleeeep.

Script Frenzy: Day Twelve

I was a little slow today, I worked from page 38 to 41, I feel like I am a bit behind compared to the daily goal. Maybe I am burning out a little bit? I had a great start in the beginning.

None the less, I made it to my first major plot point (or in Slasher terms, first death) which will get the ball rolling. Hopefully things will get faster. Maybe I am in need of a little refresher- possibly go for a movie tomorrow.

In meantime its late and its time for sleep (I really should be writing these earlier in the night)

A mental exercise

This is a Artistic Influence meme from Deviantart. The way it works is that you use images to convey the artist/films/books/etc that have influenced your art style. So I thought this would be a good way to figure out what has influenced my horror tastes and ultimately my writing and visual style for the graphic novel.

This was similar to the "mood boards" we made in my animation course to help us figure out what kind of style we are pursuing. It was an interesting mental exercise to help figure out where you get your ideas/inspirations from. If you wish to try it, you can find the PSD template here: http://fox-orian.deviantart.com/art/Influence-Map-Template-174550753

Script Frenzy: Day Eleven

Worked my way from pages 35 to 38. My last page featured the gruesome remains of one of the main characters (dun dun DUUUNNN!) and now that I have introduced my Detective character, this will be starting the Plot B of my novel.

So far I am keeping track with my work however I should try to surpass the daily goal rather than just meet it. However I did have a open house at a game studio today so I kept my job search in mind today and attended it. Hopefully I can get an interview.

Off to bed and let's do this again tomorrow!

Script Frenzy: Day Ten

I got three pages cranked out, pushing the number from 32 to 35. I seem to be getting a little behind the last couple of days. Might need to start a script sprint for tomorrow.

For now, I got some work done. I don't know how I will fare at the end of the month but really in the end I don't care if I win the challenge. I just like the thought of getting the script going, don't worry too much about if I have all details down. Just get the flow going.

Anyway time for sleep and start working again in the morning.

Script Frenzy: Day Nine

Has been rather busy today so I didn't have time to write up a page.

Plus I need to get up rather early tomorrow for an appointment so I need to head to bed early. Luckily I seem to be keeping track on my progress and everything looks good if I am off by one night.

I'll make sure to get back into the groove tomorrow afternoon.

Script Frenzy: Day Eight

Good evening folks,

Got a bit better, writing today, worked from page 28 to 32. I got all of the build up going on and tomorrow I will start writing  in the spooky stuff as the first big plot point occurs. I am looking forward to sinking my teeth into the meat of the story :)

So ends the Easter weekend and get back to regular work on Monday.

Script Frenzy: Day Seven

Ugh, I really should start writing these earlier because I get so tired during the night. Managed to pull off one page tonight but I need to make up for that tomorrow afternoon.

Note to self, go to bed earlier. Goodnight.

Script Frenzy: Day Six

Just a quick update since I have been writing these things later and later in the night.

Started from page 23 now worked my way up to page 27. I have a feeling that my first draft will be very long but that's something I can always fix later.

Time for bed and start writing again tomorrow.

Script Frenzy: Day Five

Once again it seems like I do a lot of my good writing at night but it seems to have benefited me well. I got 4 more pages done, making my count up to 22.

Currently I have introduced most of my main cast as well as write the setting of the school and some of the people that are in it. Managed to throw in a little humor on one page depicting the feeling of monotony of the school routine where Adrian acts like zombie throughout much of it up until he gets a soccer ball to the head.

At least it looked really funny in my head.

Anyway I am spent for the night so I shall be getting some sleep and enjoying Good Friday with my hubby who has the day off tomorrow and maybe we can get some chocolate bunnies this weekend! :D

Have a good weekend everyone!

Script Frenzy: Day Four

A little late writing this blog post but I managed to crank out about 3 more pages tonight.

For the first day I got the hook down, second day I then started writing the introduction of the main character, Adrian MacIssac, third day I got his morning routine and now today I started writing in the second character Patrick Stevenson and through the conversation, I start stirring up the pot a bit regarding Adrian's unexplained head wound he was showing earlier in the script.

So far, everything seems to be working. Like a good horror, things will start slowly but you still need to throw in some clues to keep the reader interested in reading more until the first big plot point happens and I think I am starting to figure out what kind of pacing I have. Its the same with my animation skills, you can never figure out your timing right away. Its something that needs practice.

Oh and out of topic for a moment. I have been talking with a comic artist and I will be working on a comic story for the Canadian Heroes Anthology for Cloudscape Comic Society. Now I am not a big fan of superheros, but this one will have an supernatural/horror twist! I am quite excited to cut my teeth on some new comic artwork!

Anyway it is getting late so I am off to bed for the night.

Script Frenzy: Day Three

Day Three went pretty smoothly. After my health improved, I was able to crank out three more pages, making the total up to 14 pages. Hopefully I can do a couple more before bed.

Now since my latest animation piece is finished I can get back to job search as well as creating artwork for the comic book. I hope in a few days I will be able to reveal some more characters- including my villain which I am looking forward to show you >:D

So thanks everyone who has kept up with me, I haven't given up on this thing yet, it can only go up from here :D

Script Frenzy: Day Two

Day two for Script Frenzy was more like a break day.

After I had finished the animation, I needed some time off and recover from a bad cold I was having for the last week. Luckily I had finished my quota for today when I was typing the first night so I didn't feel too terrible about missing it.

Tomorrow however I will be back at the word processor and typing WITH FURY!!!

Script Frenzy: Day 1!

Hello everyone,

I know this place is dead but otherwise I've got good news. I've finished the animation test I was working on and now I am officially starting the Script Frenzy challenge!

For those who don't know Script Frenzy is a yearly event worldwide in April in which you write a 100+ page screenplay within 30 days. (Kind of like National Novel Writing Month in November- instead its for film/plays/etc..)

So now I am writing the first draft of Do Unto You during this month, using it as motivation to just run through the storyline and get it down in paper (or in this case word processor). After I finish in April I will be making edits and more drafts along the way.

So far for today I have 10 pages down (this is including title page, blank pages, etc... technically about 6 pages of actual script) and hope to get some more typed down tomorrow. Each day I will be making an entry about my process and even put down a passage or two along the way.

Wish me luck!
